The Storm Didn’t Change the Promise

Before the wind began to howl, there was already a word. Before the waves rose, Jesus had already spoken.

“Let us cross over to the other side.” — Mark 4:35

The storm did not surprise Him. The waves did not intimidate Him. And the destination did not change because of turbulence. The storm didn’t change the promise.

The Word Came First

Many of us panic when storms arise, forgetting that God already spoke before the winds began to blow.

The disciples were not in that boat by accident. They were there because Jesus told them where they were going. The storm did not surprise Him. The waves did not intimidate Him. And the destination did not change because of turbulence.

The storm did not cancel the destination.

How often do we allow difficulty to make us question what God already said?

What Are You Seeing?

Isaiah 43:18–19 says:

“Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.”

“Behold” means to see, to perceive, to understand.

What we see determines whether we move forward or stay stuck on the shore.

If we keep looking at our past, our mistakes, our old labels, we will hesitate.

If we focus only on the waves, we will freeze.

But if we fix our eyes on Jesus — we cross.

Your past may have shaped you, but it does not define you. You are defined by your Creator. And the One who called you is the One who sustains you.

The Boat, The Storm, and The Savior

When the storm hit, Jesus was asleep.

Not because He didn’t care.

But because He was not threatened.

The disciples saw water filling the boat.

Jesus saw the other side.

Many miracles happened in that story:

  • Jesus walked on water.
  • Peter walked on water.
  • Peter was saved wen he began to sink.
  • The storm was silenced with a word.

But the greatest revelation?

Jesus was already in the boat.

You are not crossing alone.

Don’t Let the Storm Change Your Perspective

Sometimes the real danger is not the storm — it’s the shift in perspective.

We become so good at identifying problems that we forget the promise.

We become productive, busy, occupied — but directionless.

Before Jesus told them to get in the boat, He told them where they were going.

Do you know where God is bringing you this year?

In your character?

In your discipline?

In your calling?

In your leadership?

You may not see how yet.

But He will always show you why.

Our Part: Obedience

Yes, we have a role to play.

To forgive when He says forgive.

To let go when He says let go.

To lead when He says lead.

To pass the baton when it’s time.

A good leader knows when to prepare the next level. The race continues. The vision continues. What God started, He intends to complete.

Every “new thing” is often just more of what He already began.

See Jesus First

Sometimes we wait until the boat is almost sinking before we call on Him.

But faith doesn’t wait for disaster.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He still calms storms. He still rescues sinking hearts. He still performs miracles.

The question is not whether He is able.

The question is — what are you looking at?

The waves?

Or the Word?

Because the storm did not cancel the destination.

And if He said you’re going to the other side…

you are going.

Maybe you’re reading this in the middle of your own storm.

Maybe the waves feel louder than the promise.

Let’s pause and pray.

A Prayer for Faith in the Storm

Lord,

You spoke before the storm came.

You declared the destination before the waves rose.

Forgive me for the times I allowed fear to be louder than Your Word.

Teach me to see beyond my circumstances.

Help me trust You when I don’t understand the process.

If You are calling me to cross over,

give me courage to leave the shore.

If You are doing a new thing,

give me eyes to behold it.

Remind me daily — You are in the boat.

And the storm does not cancel Your promise.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, this could be your moment.

You don’t have to wait for the boat to sink.

You don’t have to fix yourself first.

You can simply say:

“Jesus, I need You.

Forgive my sins.

Lead my life.

Take me to the other side.”

If you prayed that sincerely, welcome to a new beginning.

The same Jesus who calms storms now walks with you.
